To lead a plant-wide performance improvement program. This will be accomplished by performing heat rate and efficiency testing, data collection and trending, data interpretation and analysis, and general technical support in order to assist plant staff in maintaining and improving equipment performance at Apache Station.

THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED AT OUR APACHE GENERATING STATION IN COCHISE,AZ.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Five years of experience in the field of performance engineering in a coal fired generating station.
  • Demonstrated knowledge is required in the areas of boiler combustion (gas and coal), steam and gas turbine performance and balance of plant including a general understanding of all aspects of coal and gas fired generation.
  • The ability to use computer tools and analysis techniques.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, implement, and administer an on-going, high profile, generation cost reduction program.
  • Supervise, schedule, coordinate, and conduct generating unit and equipment performance testing.
  • Producing monthly generation summaries.
  • Understand and be able to utilize all tools and testing methods available for monitoring and analyzing unit performance.
  • Effectively utilize the computerized plant performance monitoring systems.
  • Monitor individual and combined equipment performance and continually seek ways to improve overall plant efficiency by utilizing highly developed intuitive skills as well as practical knowledge of power plant systems and their interdependencies to reduce the cost of generation.
  • Perform coal pile inventory audits.
  • Develop and recommend maintenance and operating changes and programs that will result in lower overall cost of generation.
  • Be responsible for operation and effective utilization of the computerized plant performance monitoring.
  • Ensure performance testing equipment is properly maintained and stored.
  • Optimize unit performance while minimizing chemical usages and complying with emissions requirements.
